We are seeking a highly motivated researcher to lead and execute multidisciplinary R&D programs supporting the development of innovative technologies for government and commercial customers. The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced small business environment and contribute across multiple technical domains, including materials science, biotechnology, chemical engineering, advanced manufacturing, energy systems, and defense technologies.
Role and Responsibilites:
- Research and Development: Conceive, design, and execute innovative R&D projects addressing customer and market needs. Develop and validate new technologies through experimental and computational approaches. Design experiments, analyze data, and generate technical reports and publications. Develop laboratory-scale prototypes and demonstrate proof-of-concept performance. Troubleshoot technical challenges and rapidly iterate solutions.
- Proposal Development: Lead preparation of SBIR/STTR, Broad Agency Announcement (BAA), and other government R&D proposals. Identify funding opportunities from agencies including DoD, DOE, NASA, NSF, USDA, and NIH. Conduct literature reviews, market assessments, and competitive analyses. Develop technical approaches, work plans, schedules, budgets, and commercialization strategies.
- Technology Transition and Commercialization: Evaluate commercial potential of emerging technologies. Support customer discovery, market analysis, and product development activities. Participate in intellectual property development, including invention disclosures and patent applications. Support scale-up and manufacturing readiness activities.
- Project Management: Manage multiple concurrent R&D projects. Monitor technical progress, budgets, schedules, and deliverables. Present project results to sponsors and stakeholders.
- Laboratory Operations: Operate and maintain laboratory equipment. Develop standard operating procedures and safety protocols. Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks and documentation. Assist in procurement of equipment and materials.
Qualifications:
Required
- Ph.D. or M.S. in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Biotechnology, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or related technical field.
- Demonstrated experience conducting independent research and development.
- Strong experimental design and data analysis skills.
- Excellent technical writing and communication abilities.
- Experience preparing technical reports, proposals, publications, or patents.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to work across technical disciplines.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
Preferred
- Experience with SBIR/STTR programs.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: Industrial biotechnology and biomanufacturing, Advanced materials and composites, Carbon materials and carbon fiber technologies, Energy storage and conversion, Additive manufacturing, Aerospace materials and EMI shielding, Environmental technologies, AI/ML techniques
- Experience with technology commercialization and product development.
- Experience supervising technicians, interns, or junior researchers.
- Record of publications, patents, or successful proposal awards.
